What’s New?

Happy fall!  It is hard to believe that October is already here! The children have adjusted well to kindergarten!  Homework is periodically sent home so children can practice printing, sound recognition and reading.  Please make sure homework is done in pencil and returned as your child is able to complete it. Homework is optional.   Please also make sure your child’s name is on their homework so they can get credit for it.  Thank you for your support!     Please remember to practice the sight words sent home with your children and to have your children read the letter/paper books to you three times and sign and return.  Every month, I give out outstanding awards recognizing each child’s strength/positive characteristics.  This is a way we create a positive environment reinforcing great characteristics.  At this stage of reading, if your child comes to a word they do not know, please tell them the word as we do not want to make learning to read frustrating for young children.  Reading is a developmental process and students will learn to read when they are ready.   It is exciting to our kiddos that they will learn how to read! :)  

Curriculum

This month, we will be learning about patterning, pumpkins, counting and quantity, forming numbers, sorting, what scientists do, push and pull, how to be a good friend, listening skills, concepts of print, the letters i,u,c,o,a and g. The sight words include a, like, see and to.  We will continue to learn our sounds and how to put them together.  I am spending a lot of time introducing children to our work board and learning centers.  These learning centers are learning activities that enable children to work in groups and independently.  While children are working in their centers, I am working with a small group on reading skills in addition to assessment. 

What’s Needed?

Baby wipes and paper plates are needed for the classroom.   Please work with your child on learning to tie their shoes and zipping coats and backpacks.  When your child is doing homework, please model for them before your child attempts to form letters, numbers and so on.  We want to teach children the correct way to form letters and numbers.  We appreciate your help with this!  Please practice letter and sound identification, number recognition with your child as well as their addresses and telephone numbers.  Please continue to remind your child what they are having for lunch daily.  Please do not forget to fill out the link that was sent for a class directory by Wednesday, Oct 13th.  If you need the link again, let me know.  Thank you! 

Other Information…

Please send a daily snack and drink with your child.  Please be sure that it is a snack that can be eaten in ten minutes as we have a busy daily schedule.  In addition, please pack snacks in a labeled separate zip lock bag from the child’s lunch.  Children will be putting their snack in the top of their cubby and we like it separate so they do not get confused and eat their afternoon snack at lunch.  Since the weather is still warm, please apply sunscreen to your child daily before school.  We make every effort to take children outside while we still can.  Please also know that the classroom is very warm, this time of year.  If you would like to send in a water bottle for your child to keep at school, you may do so.  But please be sure to label the bottle with your child’s name on it.  Please send in an extra outfit for your child to keep at school.  Please make sure the outfit is a complete set including socks, underwear, shirt, and pants and that it is put in a labeled bag with your child’s name on it.  Please make sure the take home folder is brought to school everyday as we put important notices and information in there daily.   Please remind your child if they are hot or cold lunch daily.  If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to call me at (508) 347-7041 X3101 or email me at czechl@tantasqua.org.  Thank you!
