What’s New?
Welcome to Kindergarten! Mrs. Grudzien and I are looking forward to a great year! I hope that you have all had an enjoyable and relaxing summer. We have a good job jar in the classroom which gets full when the class is making good choices. Once the jar is full of cotton balls, the class votes on something special like pajama day or extra free choice. This is my way of recognizing good choices. ☺ Every month, I also give out outstanding awards which highlight your child’s qualities and strengths. We work hard in our classroom to promote positive reinforcement and to make learning fun! There are a lot of forms sent this time of year. Please fill these forms out as soon as possible and return them to school. Thanks!
Curriculum
This month, we will be introducing our fundations phonics curriculum for letters and sounds, and the reading wonders program which is our reading curriculum, the Bridges math curriculum and will be talking about the 5 senses and starting the lifecycle of an apple for science. We will also be learning about beginning reading concepts. In social studies, we will be practicing rules, learning our addresses, and what it means to be part of a community. We will spend this month getting to know the rules and routines of kindergarten. In math, we will be exploring our math materials such as pattern blocks, geoboards, and unifix cubes. We will be introducing the concepts of numbers 0-5, same vs. different, counting, sorting and graphing.
What’s Needed?
Clorox/lysol wipes, napkins, paper cups, baby wipes, lysol spray and napkins are needed. Please practice letter and sound identification with your child as well as numbers, addresses and telephone numbers.
Other Information…
Please send a daily snack and drink with your child. Please be sure that it is a snack that can be eaten in ten minutes as we have a busy daily schedule. In addition, please pack snacks in a labeled separate zip lock bag from the child’s lunch. Children will be putting their snack in the top of their cubby and we like it separate so they do not get confused and eat their afternoon snack at lunch. Since the weather is still warm, please apply sunscreen to your child daily before school. We make every effort to take children outside while we still can. Please also know that the classroom is very warm, this time of year. If you would like to send in a water bottle for your child to keep at school, you may do so. But please be sure to label the bottle with your child’s name on it. Please send in an extra outfit for your child to keep at school. Please make sure the outfit is a complete set including socks, underwear, shirt, and pants and that it is put in a labeled bag with your child’s name on it. Please make sure the take home folder is brought to school everyday as we put important notices and information in there daily. Please remind your child if they are hot or cold lunch daily. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to call me at (508) 347-7041 X3101 or email me at czechl@tantasqua.org. Thank you and Welcome to Kindergarten!
