September 2026
What’s New?
Welcome to Kindergarten! Mrs. Grudzien and I are looking forward to a great year! I hope that you have all had an enjoyable and relaxing summer. We have a good job jar in the classroom which gets full when the class is making good choices. Once the jar is full of cotton balls, the class votes on something special like pajama day or extra free choice. This is my way of recognizing good choices. ☺ Every month, I also give out outstanding awards which highlight your child’s qualities and strengths. We work hard in our classroom to promote positive reinforcement and to make learning fun! There are a lot of forms sent this time of year. Please fill these forms out as soon as possible and return them to school. Thanks! There is an early release day on Thursday, September 24th for professional development. Students will be dismissed at 11:50AM. No lunch will be served. Show and tell is every Friday in our class. All children can bring an item to show but please allow your child to bring only one item. (no electronics or breakable items please) Children are allowed to play with this item at free choice but must be willing to share.
Curriculum
This month, we will be introducing our fundations phonics curriculum for letters and sounds, and the reading wonders program which is our reading curriculum, the Bridges math curriculum and will be talking about the 5 senses and starting the lifecycle of an apple for science. We will also be learning about beginning reading concepts. In social studies, we will be practicing rules, learning our addresses, and what it means to be part of a community. We will spend this month getting to know the rules and routines of kindergarten. In math, we will be exploring our math materials such as pattern blocks, geoboards, and unifix cubes. We will be introducing the concepts of numbers 0-5, same vs. different, counting, sorting and graphing.
