January 2026
What’s New?
Happy New Year!! Happy 2026!!! We hope you all had nice and relaxing holidays! Thank you all for coming to our craft afternoon! It was nice to see you all! Thank you also for all the wonderful gifts you got for us as well as the family we adopted. Your support is much appreciated!! It is hard to believe that the New Year is here. The students are doing well. Each month, I give out outstanding awards. Every child receives one of these awards. I find the qualities that each child possesses and give them an award for that. This is just a way to make sure each child feels special about their wonderful qualities and promotes the positive in our environment. I strongly believe at this age, children need to be built up and enjoy school. Stay warm this season! Please send your child in with hats, gloves and warm jackets. We do not go outside if it is below 20 degrees for recess. Please do not worry about sending snow clothes unless the weather will be above 20 degrees and there will be a lot of snow.
Curriculum
Later this month, we will begin to send home books for your child to read to you once a week. The students will read the book to Mrs. Grudzien on Monday or Tuesday and then the book will be sent home for your child to read to you. Please return the book to school the next day. When reading with your child, if they come to a word they do not know, please tell your child the word to help them move on. We want to make reading positive at this age and exciting, not frustrating. Encourage your child to sound out words they are able but the difficult ones, please help them with so they do not get frustrated quickly.
Please also make sure your child is pointing to the words as they read to you. This is a very exciting time for Kindergarten children because the pieces of what we have learned are coming together! Once mid year assessments are completed, I will start small reading groups. In these groups, I work with a small group of children practicing reading skills and strategies. We will begin learning about uppercase letters this month. The sight words are, with, he, is and little will be covered. We will continue to learn about reading strategies such as concepts of print, putting sounds together, setting, characters, plot, and comprehension strategies. We will learn about Martin Luther King, Jr and the differences between then and now as well as winter animals and the changes in seasons. In Math, we will begin to work on numbers up to 10, sets up to 10, addition, and comparing numbers.

Please make sure your child is dressed properly for the cold weather. If your child wears boots to school, please make sure you send in sneakers for your child so they will be comfortable throughout the day. Please also make sure that ALL of your child’s winter clothing items are labeled with his/her name. This helps when children drop gloves, hats, and so on. We wish you a new year filled with much happiness and good health! Thank you for your constant generosity and support in your children’s learning! ☺ Any questions or concerns, as always feel free to contact me at czechl@tantasqua.org or (508) 347-7041 X3101. Thank you! ☺
